DEPRESSION THERAPY

Depression is more than just feeling sad or going through a difficult time—it’s a persistent experience that can affect how you think, feel, and function day to day. It may show up as low energy, loss of interest in things you once enjoyed, changes in sleep or appetite, difficulty concentrating, or a deep sense of hopelessness. For some, it’s a quiet numbness; for others, it’s a heavy emotional pain that feels hard to explain.

Depression can be triggered by life events, chronic stress, hormonal shifts, or it may seem to appear without a clear reason. It’s not a sign of weakness, and it’s not something you can simply “snap out of.” With the right support, healing is possible.

Counselling provides a safe space to explore your experiences, understand what’s beneath the surface, and learn strategies to move toward hope, balance, and renewed connection with yourself and others.

  • Changes in sleep—sleeping too much or having trouble sleeping

  • Feelings of worthlessness, guilt, or hopelessness

  • Difficulty concentrating, making decisions, or remembering things

  • Appetite or weight changes—eating too much or too little

  • Irritability or feeling easily frustrated

  • Withdrawing from others or feeling disconnected

TOOLS TO MANAGE DEPRESSION

In counselling, we work together to find approaches that support your healing and emotional well-being. Some of the tools we may explore include:

  • Behavioral Activation
Gently reintroduce structure and meaningful activities into your day to boost mood and motivation.

  • Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Learn to identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts that contribute to low mood and self-criticism.

  • Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Practices
Build awareness of your emotions without judgment and learn to treat yourself with kindness instead of harsh inner dialogue.

  • Emotion Regulation Skills
Understand your emotional patterns and learn strategies to manage overwhelm and improve emotional balance.

  • Sleep and Routine Support
Explore the connection between sleep, nutrition, and mood—and create small, sustainable routines that support mental health.

  • Connection and Support
Address patterns of withdrawal and explore safe ways to reconnect with others, even when it feels difficult.
